Separating the two is key to an exit strategy if you want to get out of the business and not be taken along as well to the new business. Many small business owners get dragged into the big company when they sell and they lose that spark that made them successful in the entrepreneurial stage. Separating the personal brand and the business brand for an exit strategy is important too.
