Many people I come across are not presenting well at all. By that I mean how they talk and explain a new concept, a product, a plan or similar.
The challenge is that different people respond to different stimuli. Some people are vey visual, some are very auditory, some are kinaesthetic etc.
If you sit down with somebody for a meeting and all you do is talk, they may find it very difficult to follow you. When presenting at a larger meeting it’s even more important that you use other means of communicating than just your speech. if you’re just talking and talking you will surely lose some of your audience.
Whether your weapon of choice is Prezi, Keynote or trusted old Powerpoint, spending a lot more time building your presentation is definitely worth it. Don’t waste time building fancy transitions, instead find good simple illustrations to hammer home your points, and stay away from the dreaded old bullet point. Sometimes presenting on sheets of butcher’s paper can be the most effective
Remember to look at your body language, your mannerisms, and your voice. It’s an area where attending a basic workshop on presentation skills will get you really far.
