Yes, on a previous page I told you to get an intern.
Do you have a business partner? Or another senior person in the organisation? Then both of you can manage an intern. When you hire correctly, getting an intern is an immense value-add. At the same time you help a young person get a real head start.
Am I saying that if you have 20 staff you should 20 interns? Probably not. But consider that all your senior people should have the time (if they don’t, they’re not delegating enough) and the knowledge to manage an intern.
Getting interns onboard can also be a great way of grooming potential future employees.
It’s a well–worn cliché, but interns are really crap at making coffee and filing. They’re far more valuable to provide a fresh insight into how your business could be better. They may not have the right answer, but if you open up to a stimulating conversation, they may well lead you to the right answer that you otherwise would have missed.
