always be a topAs a business owner, entrepreneur, author, speaker or expert you are always and forever marketing yourself. You can never stop this. While you may grow and employ sales people and marketing people, you, as the founder, must remain the figurehead of the marketing attack.

This principle applies whether you see yourself as a marketer or not. Even if you are an expert in something as specialised as insurance company audits, you are still marketing yourself as a brand every time you write an article, consult to a client or stand on the podium at a conference.

What you need to ensure when you meet people is that

  • you are memorable,
  • you make it easy for them to get in touch,
  • when they do get in touch, what they see and hear attracts them,
  • and, importantly, that you’re able to contact them. That way you stay more in control of the process of turning that opportunity into a sale.
