Here’s a funny one: I spend a fair amount of energy on getting Business Connector noticed by the media. As I’m sure a lot of other business owners do. I love the media, and I know one of the most important things for me to do is to make it easy for them to help me get coverage. It’s like a symbiotic relationship.
So it was a surprise when somebody I spoke to today from SA said “I saw you in BRW”. My response went something like “In what? When?” He retorted: “BRW, the magazine, you do know BRW, don’t you?”. Sheepishly I had to admit that yes, of course I know BRW, but had not seen the coverage. How remiss!
Or was it really? I don’t have a scorecard for how much media coverage Business Connector gets. I do the right thing and do it consistently and expect the results to follow. And in this case they did. Here’s the mention by BRW’s Michael Bailey:
So what can you learn from this?
Every time you have something newsworthy, send out a press release. Aim for one a month. Don’t be afraid to connect with a few core journalists on Linkedin. If you want to have a conversation with them, use Twitter. It’s immediate and effective. Works all hours. Works from top to bottom.
