Previously I said to have a mentor, but in my view it’s equally important to be a mentor. Several important things happen when you do.
When you assume the role of the mentor you become an authority figure, and will be seen by people around you to be a wise person worth consulting. That can never be bad for business, regardless of what you’re selling.
By being a mentor you pass on good ‘karma’. What if twenty years from now 50 business leaders will point to you and say “let me introduce my mentor; the one reason I achieved all I have, the one person who always believed in me”.
Finally, being a mentor is about being your personal best. When you are helping others (whether paid or for free) you have to be at the top of your game. Naturally that helps you in driving your own business to even greater success. Mentoring makes you strive even harder to be the best at what you do.
